Heirs’ Property in the U.S. Virgin Islands

The project Heirs’ Property: Elevating the Story was produced in collaboration between the Housing Assistance Council and Wells Fargo. The project aims to highlight the complex, nuanced, and diverse experiences of heirs’ property owners and the organizations that support them. A series of videos spotlight the voices of community members, leaders, and practitioners, offering a platform for their stories to be shared directly with a wide range of audiences.

This video focuses on heirs’ property in St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Produced with Occasio Consulting, it provides an overview of how the U.S. Virgin Islands have been affected by a complex history of landownership in the midst of colonial occupations and varied land tenure systems.
